2007 was a very good year . . . for VoIP.
According to a new report from Infonetics Research, Service Provider VoIP and IMS Equipment and Subscribers, the sales of equipment for VoIP and IMS service providers rose by 19 percent over sales from 2006. There were just nearly 80 million VoIP subscribers worldwide in 2007.
“The overall next gen voice equipment market is maturing, as evidenced by single-digit annual sales growth in traditional equipment such as media gateways and softswitches, but other types of equipment, namely session border controllers, media servers, and voice application servers, will generally grow faster for the next five years,” said Stéphane Téral, principal analyst for VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research.
Nortel and Nokia Siemens were the top revenue leaders worldwide in the combined media gateway and softswitch markets — two of the hottest segments.
