Vietnam sentences South Korean businessman 16 years in jail for illegal VoIP

VoIP is still illegal in Vietnam. Any effort to start a VoIP service sparks a strong agitation from the communist government of that country. If a foreigner dares to do that, he is bound to face the hardest punishment. That is what happened with Ko Don Chul, a 46-year-old South Korean businessman who illegally started a VoIP service in Vietnam.
Ko was sentenced to 16 years in jail by a Vietnamese Court for illegally operating VoIP systems. The South Korean businessman has reportedly set up five VoIP systems in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The court accused that Ko used the internet and avoided government telephony charges on overseas calls.
During a two-day-trial, the court claimed that Kos illegally VoIP business has caused the government to loss more than 1.1 million dollars.
