Twenty Years Ago: I wrote letters to my friends and occationally would call them from my rotary dial phone. No one I knew had an answering machine.
Fifteen Years Ago: I called my friends from our cordless phone and played with the tape-based answering machine. Sometimes I would type letters on my computer and hand-deliver them.
Ten Years Ago: I emailed the few of my friends with email and sent letters to the rest. I used my analog cell phone in emergencies, or when I wanted to feel cool. I soon switched to a pager because it was cheaper. I started trying out early VoIP.
Five Years Ago: I instant messaged friends and emailed those without it. I seldom wrote letters. For calling, I tried out some VoIP services to see how they worked. And I used my dual band cell phone when I was away from home.
Today: There is unprecidented choice.
