The High Lights Of VON Spring 2008.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

There were a lot of things that happened at the VON conference in San Jose this week. I spent a lot of time with Digium, creators of the Asterisk open-source telephony software and it’s new products that were unveiled. The Switchvox 3.5 and the AA60 Switchvox Appliance, are additions to Digium’s Switchvox product line, based entirely on Digium’s Asterisk technology and software. I will surely follow them up soon.

Then there was the OpenSER summit that I attended. I wrote about OpenSER a few times in this blog and I am sure I will continue to write more. OpenSER is an open source SIP server and supported by a global community of developers. OpenSER now promotes its features and services for business opportunities in enterprise and carrier markets. I also had the pleasure of meeting and listening to a large number of developers from the project.

I also attended a few workshops and listened to a few keynote speeches. But I think I gained most from the Digium |Asterisk World and the Innovators Forum.

Thanks Jeff Pulver, for everything.

All in all I learned a lot and met a whole bunch of people. I will be looking forward to the next VON!

G729 Codec Module Updated (codec_g729-v34) For All Platforms. From Digium.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

It is nice being able to write while traveling to VON! Yes a buddy of mine is driving (and complaining where is the engine noise!!) my super efficient Prius and I am working on mu UMPC. (Could not deal with lack of WiFi on high ways! so connected to the net via, my good old Cell phone.)
I almost forgot to mention that Digium has released an update/upgrade to G729 codec Module.
The software G.729 codec module from Digium has been updated for all platforms. There are x86_32 and x86_64 versions optimized for specific processors available for both Asterisk 1.6 and 1.4 for the following platforms.
* Linux
* Solaris 10
* FreeBSD 7.0
* FreeBSD 6.1

What Changed:

* For Asterisk trunk / 1.6, builds have been updated for CLI API changes.
* All non-Linux builds for both 1.4 and 1.6 have been updated for various API changes.
* All of the Linux builds include changes so that an Ethernet interface explicitly named eth0, or eth1, etc., is no longer required.

All of the builds are available from Digium

Why does Digium|Asterisk World Exist?

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Do not miss the presentations, (any if you can manage it,) but I am looking forward listen to one particular speech tomorrow.
Digium Founder and CTO Mark Spencer will deliver the Digium|Asterisk World keynote address on tomorrow, March 18 at 12:30 p.m. The presentation, "Why does Digium|Asterisk World Exist?" will focus on the role Asterisk plays in successful businesses.
After that, day after tomorrow, Digium CEO Danny Windham will deliver a keynote address at VON, "An Open Source VoIP Primer," on Wednesday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m. that will examine open source trends and business models.
Happy VONing!

VON Spring 2008, The XoIP (Everything Over Internet Protocol)

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

I have marked my calendar off for four days, from March 17th to 20th. I have enabled follow me for all my phone numbers. Grand Central is in action!. I also have to cancel/postpone a meeting or two.
Because I am excited about the VON Spring 2008. I have arranged my tickets, laid out plans for meetings and conferences. Basically I am all geared up to go!. The best part is I don’t have to go too far. It is in San Jose, CA. and I will be driving with a few friends in my Toyota Prius! It pays to live in one of the Greenest Cities in the USA. (The Prius is a plugin ;)).

Back to the subject of VON Spring. And this allowed me to use the word XOIP on this blog for the first time. VON is no longer just voice or video, it’s everything over the Internet, commonly referred to as XoIP. VON.x is the ultimate gathering place to gain knowledge and realize profits from the Internet Communications Continuum™. It’s the ONLY event of its kind dedicated to all that encompasses Internet Communications.

There are quite few tracks and you need to visit the VON site to select yours as there are many choices. I have certainly selected my conference tracks as well as some pre-conference workshops. I am looking forwad to Digium | Asterisk World track as well.
The complete schedule could be found here. If you have not registered, follow this link for all the information and registration.
