Orange, TeliaSonera to bring converged VoIP for corporate world

France Telecoms subsidiary Orange and TeliaSonera have signed a landmark VoIP agreement under which TeliaSonera would integrate its IP-based services in the Nordic and Baltic area with Oranges global IP services.

With this deal, TeliaSonera has geared up to provide its corporate customers flawless communication services worldwide regardless of different platforms.

A company statement from Orange explains,

Orange Business Services and TeliaSonera are both in the forefront of providing leading IP services to support the business processes of corporate customers. Through this contract we are looking forward to provide TeliaSoneras international customers a truly global converged service offering.

TeliaSonera considers the deal as an important step in companys strive to create growth via new mobile and IP-based services together with increased simplicity of its customers.

TeliaSonera targets Asian VoIP market

As said earlier, Asia is now a potential market for VoIP with business enterprises keen to spend more on this voice technology. Therefore, the European VoIP service providers are now targeting Asian IP market. TeliaSonera is among them.

According to a Forbes report, the company is expanding its extensive international backbone network into Asia. Taking a major step in this direction, it has set up its first Point of Presence (PoP) in Hong Kong.
The company claims Asian customers will be immensely benefited from the high-quality VoIP and mobile services and the enable to connect locally to Europes IP-backbone, AS 1299.

Commenting on the new PoP up in Hong Kong, TeliaSonera International Carriers head Ingvar Larsson says,

The expansion into Asia is an important strategic step in our ambition to become one of the three largest global IP carriers.

The Hong Kong PoP up will be functional by the first of December this year, he added. It would be integrated with the TeliaSonera International Carrier international IP-backbone which has a bandwidth of multiple 10Gbps.

TeliaSonera brings Converged VoIP to Denmark

Converged Voice service is the order of the day. Now, all most all countries are keen to combine mobile, fixed-line and Internet in one. Denmark is among those countries, which is going to access this kind of VoIP service very soon.

TeliaSonera has taken a remarkable step in this direction. The company is introducing its latest voice solution that brings together the mobile communications and wireless broadband.

The company claims that it is the first commercial service based on global UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) standard that empowers a handheld mobile phone to make VoIP calls over a homes WiFi and broadband connections. Therefore, it is named Home Free, which the Danish families will access from November.

Jesper Broekner, head of TeliaSonera in Denmark said on the new launch,

We are introducing a product that combines the best of three worlds: mobile, fixed-line and Internet. Danish families will now be able to cancel their fixed line subscriptions at home without losing their home phone numbers, and at the same time save more than 20 percent on their phone bill.

The start of mobile VoIP in Denmark is the foundation stone in the introduction of telecommunications solutions of the future in the market, the company added.

TeliaSonera becomes the first operator in Europe to trial wireless IP telephony via WLAN

TeliaSonera has emerged as the first operator in Europe to trial wireless IP telephony via WLAN for enterprise customers in cooperation with Nokia and Cisco Systems. The wireless IP telephony solution ensures that the employee only needs one phone regardless of his location. In the office, the phone would utilize the enterprise IP and WLAN network while outside the office the phone switches to the mobile network while features such as calendars, short dial numbers and contacts are maintained. The trials evaluated the technologys functionality and usability, WLAN infrastructure, handover between WLAN and mobile and IP networks and security and voice quality in various environments.

VoIP billionaire throws over $147,000 at Beckham

Idar VollvikIdar Vollvik, the billionaire founder of Norwegian VoIP firm Chess/Sense (that was purchased by purchased by TeliaSonera this year), bought a pair of English soccer megastar David Beckhams boots for 85,600 pounds which is about USD 147,600.

Vollvik bought the boots sold by a charitable concern, Norske Kvinners Sanitetsforening, in a Norwegian TV show

Norske Kvinners Sanitetsforening ran an auction to buy tents for the thousands of Pakistanis who were left homeless following the devastating earthquake in October this year.
