Two Mines to Get Underground Wi-Fi Telephones in KY

Source: www.voip-news.com

Two underground coal mines in Kentucky will be upgrading to the new ActiveMine communication system, which links the underground workspace with the outside world via wireless Wi-Fi telephones and a special tracking system. Active Control Technology, the creator of ActiveMine, says that the first system will be installed in May, with a second system going in later this year. All together, there will be 53 ActiveMine nodes in the two underground areas.

The name of the coal mining company hasn’t been disclosed.

“We’re delighted that ActiveMine will become a key tool for our new customer in fulfilling its commitments to employee safety and business productivity,” said Steve Barrett, President and CEO, Active Control. “We look forward to helping customers to safeguard employees and get the most out of their mines.”

According to Active Control, the deployment of the systems is subject to MSHA approval for the wireless Wi-Fi phones, which is expected soon.

Reverse Telephone Lookup that Transcends Phone Type

Source: www.voip-news.com

There is a new reverse telephone number lookup solution that is capable of searching wireless phone data, traditional landlines, VoIP and toll free telephone services. DOTS GeoPhone Plus was created by Service Objects, Inc. The company says that the service fills a need in the growing landscape that has fewer landlines and more alternative phone-types.

“In today’s challenging economic environment it is especially critical to watch every dollar spent,” says Geoffrey Grow, CEO of Service Objects. “With the release of DOTS GeoPhone Plus companies now have the ability to validate all of their leads, prospects, and customers, before wasting valuable resources on erroneous or fraudulent contact information. Furthermore, DOTS GeoPhone Plus clients only pay for transactions that end in matches, resulting in a pay-per-match pricing model that further protects today’s already stressed budgets.”

According to the company:

DOTS GeoPhone Plus is a hosted, programmable XML Web Service designed to provide the most comprehensive reverse lookup of virtually any telephone number available in the U.S. and Canada. The service gives customers the ability to find name and postal address information for U.S. and Canadian telephone numbers, and delivers contact validation in real-time. The DOTS GeoPhone Plus Web Service can easily be implemented behind the scenes of a Web form, in contact centers, or integrated with any CRM system to help customers instantly append contact data to their telephone records, and weed out fraudulent or incomplete telephone records.

When DOTS GeoPhone Plus is used to validate a telephone number, that phone number is instantly checked against Service Objects’ extensive data source of over 300 million records, returning an accurate and validated telephone number and contact information in about .5 seconds. Furthermore, Service Objects’ core telephone number data is updated daily with more than 4 million new records from over 2,000 telephone carriers, providing customers with unparalleled contact information.

According to MSNBC:

The X6v has both an FXS (phone instrument) port and an FXO (phone network) port, and enables bi-directional bridging of calls between the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Voice over IP. Connecting the FXO port to the phone network also provides the phones connected to the X6v with reliable emergency dialing, and backup phone service in the event of a power failure. Zoom’s distinctive Teleport(TM) feature is supported to provide inexpensive compliance with the emergency dialing (E911) regulations required by the Federal Communications Commission.

The router in the X6v incorporates Zoom’s distinctive “FastLane” feature, allowing users to easily establish Quality of Service for improved on-line gaming, video conferencing, and other applications. FastLane allows applications that require immediate transmission of data to work reliably even when they are competing with bandwidth-hungry applications, including popular peer-to-peer multimedia sharing applications.
