The Panasonic KX-WP800 Skype phone will be released at the end of this month, in Japan. The phone comes with it’s own wireless gateway and there is no need of a computer to make a call.

The Panasonic KX-WP800 is a Wi-Fi enabled phone with a 1.8 inch LCD color display. The additional features include;
55 hours of standby time4.5 hours of talk timeConnectivity to the FON networkBundled with 802.11b/g router
The Livedoor FON access points are available in Japan, supposed to have about 2200 just in Tokyo should surely provide a use for the Panasonic KX-WP800 beyond the house or your gateways reach. If you are a registered FON user you can take the handset with you and it will automatically log onto any FON hotspots you come across, allowing you to make VoIP calls over WiFI. The Phone will be vailable from March 28, 2008 for US$290, bit too expensive for my taste.

The phone weighs only a mere 100g and provides you with 4.5 hours of talk-time and 55 hours of stand-by time. This Skype phone priced at $296 USD, may be heavy on the budget, however reduces your regular phone bill with its Skype and Wi-Fi features.

Will Skypephone bring revolution in Mobile VoIP?

Source: voipcentral.org

skypeThe wait is almost over. Huchison 3G or 3 has officially launched the keenly-waited Skypephone dubbed as 3 Skypephone in UK. Skypephone means built-in Skype functionality. Thus, as said earlier, the device must simplify the use of Skype VoIP. There is no doubt.

Other countries like Australia, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Macau and Sweden will welcome the 3 Skypephone by the end of this year.

The Skypephone brings free VoIP calls for the Skype users in UK. The mobile operator is not charging. However, the customers can enjoy 4,000 minutes of free calls in a month on 3s network. They can enjoy incoming calls beyond that limit. If the customers are outside 3s network, then roaming charge is applicable. The phone does not work in USA.

With Skypephone, you can also make Skype Out calls. I mean Mobile to PC or Landline or any other phone. These calls are not free.

Features:

1.Candy-bar style

2.Color: white and black

3.2-megapixel camera,

4.MPHuchison 3 player

5.Bluetooth connectivity

6.16M bytes of internal memory

7.Micro SD memory card.

8.Price: Just $102

Is it new beginning for MVoIP?

MVoIP or Mobile over VoIP is a dichotomy (Read Vodafone, Orange). The mobile operators have always tried to maintain distance from VoIP. Huchison 3 has embraced Mobile VoIP. Who knows some other day, Vodafone may be romancing with VoIP!!!

Skype Phone in UK by Three

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Net is awash with reports that mobile provider Three will team up with Skype to develop and deliver a Skype phone in the U.K. that will allow free phone calls without all that hassles of turning on the computer, installing special software or headsets and setting up new accounts.
Skype is already available on some niche X Series 3 phones, for which customers pay an advance subscription, but the new deal would see the VoIP service offered across 3’s entire range of handsets.
Three still hasn’t officially confirmed the partnership. A spokesman said: "The move marks a radical step forward in operator thinking and will mobilise internet calls for a mass market. It will also close the gap between internet communications and mobile calling and is something you won’t see from any other operator."
According to the online version of The Times (U.K.) , For Skype, extending its brand into the booming mobile market could help to revive its faltering growth.
Google, the internet search giant, is also poised for an attack on the sector with the development of an entire operating system for mobile handsets. The group aims to replicate its runaway success online in the mobile phone industry, seizing a share of the potential multibillion-dollar mobile advertising market.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Users can now experience the huge benefits of VoIP without the need for a PC. Hip-IP.com now stock the RTX DualPhone 3081 which allows the user to make and receive VoIP enabled telephone calls without a PC.
With the increasing popularity of the SIP based VoIP providers this provides a genuine alternative to the Skype™ based DualPhone. With the option of including upto 8 handsets in one gateway it also suitable for use in offices as well as homes.

The dual mode technology also means that these excellent products can also make regular PSTN (land line) telephone calls from the same unit. The product has easy to navigate keypads that allow you to easily distinguish between land line and Internet calls.

With its timeless Scandinavian stylish design it fits into both the modern home and office environment. With the option of up to 8 handsets (each with individual phone numbers) connected to a gateway, you can make 3 sip calls and 1 PSTN call simultaneously, and with the built in PBX functionality – the phone is a perfect work tool for smaller enterprises and it just makes every day at work a bit easier.

Add to this a sturdiness that reassures and a 1 year manufacturers warranty they are an attractive prospect for both newcomers to VoIP and old hands.

With the recent launch of the Siemens Gigaset range the market and popularity for this type of product is hotting up. Consumers are now waiting with bated breath for the next development in this technology which is bringing much lower call rates (if not free calls) to the masses. You can be sure whatever those developments are Hip-IP.com will be on the case.

Coming soon: Skype phone

Source: voipcentral.org

Come Christmas, you will enjoy Skype services from your Skype-made mobile phones. Yes, I am talking about the latest handheld device, which eBay is developing in collaboration with Hutchison Whampoa acquired mobile operator 3.

Most presumably, the Skype phone will possess the basic Skype features. It would enable customers enjoy free or inexpensive international VoIP calls without leaning before the computers.

According to Cellular News, 3 has joined hands with an Asian handset maker for the Skype phone, which is likely to debut in UK before Christmas, then in other countries like Australia and Italy.

The UK-based mobile operator has been providing Skype services on its X-Series platform since last year. The launch of exclusive Skype phones by 3 will certainly bring most sophisticated VoIP services on mobile networks.

The mobile giant has expressed,

The move marks a radical step forward in operator thinking and will mobilize internet calls for a mass market. It will also close the gap between internet communications and mobile calling and is something you won’t see from any other operator.

However, both the companies have not revealed further details of the device.

Panasonic KX-WP1050 Wi-fi Skype phone with Wireless Travel Router

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

VoIP IP Telephony @ http://snapvoip.blogspot.com

If you remember real early cell phones from Motorola that you carried in a bag, and appropriately called bagphone, transportable or luggable phone, the bag phone contained a heavy cellular transceiver with a large battery enclosed in a leather bag. Since battery life wasn’t good, most people plugged the unit into a car’s cigarette lighter and used it while driving. Power output was twice that of the brick, the hand-held cellular phone that borrowed its name from Motorola’s first Handie-Talkie. Dwarfing any present hand-held, except perhaps satellite phones, the brick’s battery itself was larger than most cell phones on the market today.

Now you have a chance to revisit history. This time with added new technology Wireless, VoIP, Skype and of course a lighter and nicer phone, Panasonic KX-WP1050 Wi-fi Skype phone.

But it has also bringing another era for Skype. To have main stream manufacturers like Panasonic producing the phone for them. So folks whether you like it or not, skype will be here for a long time. And might as well see how you can best use it.
And for those interested in technology, develop something like Coosip.

With the Panasonic KX-WP1050, Panasonic has taken the complexity out of making Skype™ calls by including a complete kit which can be set up and used by virtually anyone with little or no computer experience. The included router simplifies the set up of the Wi-Fi access point, and guarantees a secure wireless connection with automatic 256-bit AES encryption setup (WPA). The router can also be plugged into a hotel or office network giving the user a wireless connection for their laptop and the ability to use the Wi-Fi phone simultaneously. The AC adapter is compatible with all voltages from 100V to 240V, so it can be used by simply attaching the AC cord (sold separately) for a particular country.

The phone is priced at $399.00 for the kit and follow the links for Panasonic site and a good review by, whom but the best, Skype itself.

YapperMouse: Another Mouse-cum-Skype Phone

Source: voipcentral.org

A few days back I wrote an article on the new Skype phone by Sony that doubles up as a mouse. The Sony VN-CX1 Skype phone is a flip-open phone and when used as a mouse it looks a bit rectangular in shape with a longish shape that at first glance doesnt seem like a normal mouse that we generally use.

The YapperMouseThere is a mouse-cum-Skype phone in the market already for $39.95 called YapperMouse that was released in this years CES. It not only looks like a much more conventional mouse than Sonys VN-CX1. Developed and designed by a 5-member team of students from Stanford University, the YapperMouse can not only give some serious competition to the VN-CX1 but with its attractive pricing and elegant and advanced features like speaker-phone and vibration alert can actually beat it.

According to an email sent to me by Harrison Tang, Marketing Officer, YapperMouse, the developers of this Skype phone have already filed 3 patents for this concept that they conceived about 6 months back.

The clam-shell YapperMouse will follow in three months and the wireless is in the development stage as well.

Lets see how will it be eventually accepted by users in the coming future. In my opinion, it should do really well. I would be surprised if it didnt.

Check the YapperMouse website here.

Sony

Source: voipcentral.org

The Sony VN-CX1 Skype PhoneInspired by my idea [read my comment on Om Maliks post], Sony has launched a mouse that doubles up as a fully functional Skype phone!

The latest gadget christened VN-CX1 looks like a typical mouse; open it and lo! Its a Skype phone complete with microphone and volume control!

So how do you know when you are getting a call? An LED blinks of course; right in line with what I thought!

Anyway, the dimensions of VN-CX1 are 45.5 23.9 89.2 mm and weighs 67gms.

Alas! Given that patenting ideas is such a lucritive business these days, I missed out on that one. What do you say Om? :-( *sob sob*
