SIPphone Makes The Call To Jajah

Source: gigaom.com

Jajah, in its effort to become a backend platform for VoIP services, has started offering call termination, billing and other such services to one and all comers. They got a big boost when they signed up YahooNow, the Sequoia Capital-backed company has signed up SIPphone, the company behind Gizmo and will handle their call termination. Does this mean Gizmo’s call quality will increase? I certainly hope so – I have stopped using the service because of poor quality of voice.

Instead, I have opted for RingCentral, which recently introduced a Mac OS X soft client (in addition to a PC version) and it is doing a might fine job for me. I was highly skeptical of RingCentral in the past but they have won me over with their high quality service. (Full review, pending!)

Soft phones – whether they are from RingCentral, Vonage, Gizmo or Skype extremely useful. I almost never am close to a landline, but an internet connection is always handy. Using soft phone, I can make quick calls without really breaking away from the computer screen. I am not alone in professing a liking for Softphones. A Frost & Sullivan report says that as a percentage of total IP-telephone market soft phones share will increase from 5 percent to 20 percent by 2014. Softphone sales rose to 416,000 units, worth $18.9 million in 2007, up 30% over 2006.

What’s New Now: Gizmo Project 4.0, fringMe Widget, Truphone For Facebook

Source: gigaom.com

SIPphone just released Gizmo Project 4.0, a soft client that includes video calling. You can make free video calls, even if only one person has a webcam, and the Meta IM and Tabbed Chat interface make it a worthy IM client for your Windows desktop. Mac people will have to wait, but 4.0 works on Nokia tablets. Now if they would just improve their quality of service…

Mobile VoIP/IP startup Fring has released the fringME! widget, which lets web visitors fring you from anywhere you’ve placed it. Among the cool features on this widget is the real-time ‘find me’ feature, which instantly opens a GoogleMaps window to show the fringster’s physical location via their GPS-equipped handset.

And lastly, my favorite voice-over-Wi-Fi company, Truphone, has released a Facebook app that allows folks to call you directly from the social network, just add the Truphone ‘Call Me’ button. They also have a video explaining how it works.

IHT’s Kevin discusses Skype and Ebay culture.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Kevin O’Brien at International Herald Tribune has written a lengthy but good article about Skype and Skype business at Ebay. "Waiting For Skype to Pay Off Ebay". He brings good and bad information about culture clashes, stiff headed managements and more than doubled Skype users (free skype downloads) together to paint a nice picture.
Once you read the article, you may wonder where Skype is going. It will certainly will not go out of business but the question arises as to if they could make a proper business out of Skype. Where Skype would become a day to day word in corporate world.
Andy Abramson over at VOIP WATCH, who lead me to the IHT article mentions hiring Michael Robertson in as president, (Michael is the guy who got you MP3.com? Lindows (Hey Micheal where is my PC?) and then Linspire and Freespire. He also has the SIPphone and MP3tunes under his arms now. SIPphone I think came from somewhere in France a while ago. But one thing is for sure, Andy is right and Michael is a sure footed business man. Skype will go ways if Micheal is at the helm. Thanks Andy for putting Disruptive thoughts in my mind.

Anyway this new service – Area775 offers unique calling features giving consumers the ability to easily manage calls in a sophisticated manner.

You can take opt for a free US telephone number in the 775 area code or pay $3.95 per month and select a different US area code.
