SIPphone Makes The Call To Jajah

Source: gigaom.com

Jajah, in its effort to become a backend platform for VoIP services, has started offering call termination, billing and other such services to one and all comers. They got a big boost when they signed up YahooNow, the Sequoia Capital-backed company has signed up SIPphone, the company behind Gizmo and will handle their call termination. Does this mean Gizmo’s call quality will increase? I certainly hope so - I have stopped using the service because of poor quality of voice.

Instead, I have opted for RingCentral, which recently introduced a Mac OS X soft client (in addition to a PC version) and it is doing a might fine job for me. I was highly skeptical of RingCentral in the past but they have won me over with their high quality service. (Full review, pending!)

Soft phones - whether they are from RingCentral, Vonage, Gizmo or Skype extremely useful. I almost never am close to a landline, but an internet connection is always handy. Using soft phone, I can make quick calls without really breaking away from the computer screen. I am not alone in professing a liking for Softphones. A Frost & Sullivan report says that as a percentage of total IP-telephone market soft phones share will increase from 5 percent to 20 percent by 2014. Softphone sales rose to 416,000 units, worth $18.9 million in 2007, up 30% over 2006.

BT and RingCentral Partner Up

Source: www.voip-news.com

Another virtual PBX option? Yep.

BT of the U.K. and RingCentral of the U.S. have partnered to create a virtual PBX system that lets users choose between using their standard phone or their computer to make calls. There’s a so-called Desktop Call Controller as well as the capabilities to greet callers with a uniform message, include holding music and other features to promote a professional business atmosphere for small businesses.

“The telephone is still an essential business tool, but when combined with an online virtual phone system like BT RingCentral, it becomes even more powerful for small businesses. It allows them to present a more professional image by giving them the tools that have traditionally only been open to big business and also gives them more control of how they communicate, with customers, colleagues and partners,” sai Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business.

RingCentral Rings Up A Big Sale

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

Startup RingCentral has landed a big fish in BT for its web based phone calling service according to the Red Herring.

The net net here is that the play whicht RingCentral is pursuing to clone is working with other carriers, and using them as their channel partners versus trying to sell uphill direct to small business.

RingCentral Rings Up $12 Million

Source: gigaom.com

RingCentral, a Redwood City, Calif.-based VoIP company, has raised $12 million in Series B funding, doubling the amount it raised in its Series A round. New investor DAG Ventures led the latest funding, with existing investors Sequoia Capital and Khosla Ventures participating as well. The company claims some 50,000 customers, making it one of the more successful players in the hosted VoIP sector. I was highly skeptical of RingCentral when it launched, but I guess there are 50,000 reasons why I was wrong. (I am going to post a long overdue review of RingCentral’s service later this month. )
