NetMotion Releases New Version of Mobility XE

Source: www.voip-news.com

NetMotion Wireless has released the latest update of their Mobile VPN Software. Version 8.51 of Mobility XE(TM) can now support character sets from many languages including French, German, Italian, Spanish, and most other European languages. That means that IT admins and end users can use their native languages for user names, passwords and more. Additionally, the new release has support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and 2005 SP3.

“Many European languages include characters that are not supported by the basic English character set and most products built for the United States market ignore this fact or deal with it poorly,” said Pam Cory, vice president of marketing, NetMotion Wireless. “The new Mobility XE allows IT managers and mobile workers outside the U.S. to use the same character set they use every day. We’re committed to serving the European market, and we believe this new product enhancement will better serve business and government agencies looking for a best-in-class Mobile VPN solution.”

According to the company:

Around the globe, more than 350,000 mobile workers use NetMotion’s Mobility XE to mitigate some of the most common challenges in mobile deployments today, including application stability as users move in and out of wireless coverage areas, and seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and wide-area cellular networks. In addition, the company provides advanced security and network management controls that extend corporate security policies to mobile devices, while also allowing customers to utilize their existing mobile investments to reliably deploy real-time applications such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and streaming video.

Source: www.voip-news.com

Diamond Management & Technology Consultants is now using NetMotion Wireless’s Mobility XE, the latest version of its Mobile VPN. The company, which has more than 600 employees spread around the work, is hoping the new Mobile VPN will increase consultant productivity. Among the benefits is being able to reconnect to the network without logging in again — so that consultants can access pertinent applications like VoIP or databases faster.

“We’ve been a long-time user of NetMotion software and our consultants, who are often at client sites, rely on it to stay connected. They can remain as productive on the road as they are at home or in the office,” said Bill Economos, Senior Director at Diamond. “In addition, our internal IT operations see real benefits in the ease of administration of our wireless networks.”

According to NetMotion:

Around the globe, more than 350,000 mobile workers use NetMotion’s Mobility XE to mitigate some of the most common challenges in mobile deployments today, including application stability as users move in and out of wireless coverage areas, and seamless roaming between Wi-Fi and wide-area cellular networks. Source: www.voip-news.com

RoamAnywhere Mobility Router is now available in Europe. Agito Networks, the company behind RoamAnywhere, says that their solution lets companies cut back on telephony expenses by bringing the capabilities of VoIP over WLAN to mobile phones.

“In a lot of enterprises, people are using their mobile phone as their primary phone, instead of their deskphone,” said Gaetan Claeys, Business Development Manager Mobility at Dimension Data. “Many companies today are thinking of using dual mode phones and are looking for a solution such as Agito to reduce and better control cellular charges and roaming charges, save money by not having to buy deskphones for some users, and improve reachability of users. Agito’s solution will help our customers better control and reduce their cellular charges while offering to end users enterprise-class features on their mobile device. As a network integrator with strong expertise in both wireless technology and unified communications, we are now uniquely positioned in the market to provide our customers with complete enterprise mobile telephony solutions.”

According to the company:

Agito offers the broadest handset and PBX support of any solution in the space, including European support for Alcatel and Shortel PBXs in addition to existing support for Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft, Nortel and Asterisk IP-PBXs. It has qualified support for more than 35 different types of handsets from Nokia and those running Windows Mobile 6 Standard and Professional operating systems. Unlike other eFMC solutions that require enterprises to tamper with their enterprise route plans and desk phones during deployment, Agito, with its line-side capabilities, integrates seamlessly into existing customer networks, requiring no changes to the ecosystem.

RoamAnywhere Mobility Router Wins 2008 Distinction

Source: www.voip-news.com

Agito Networks’ RoamAnywhere Mobility Router has been named one of the Top 10 Products of the Year by eWEEK.

“With mobile phones becoming the preferred mode of voice communication for many employees, mobile phone costs are skyrocketing for many companies,” wrote Andrew Garcia, eWEEK Labs analyst. “FMC (fixed mobile convergence) solutions solve this problem, allowing end users to seamlessly leverage WiFi for voice over IP communications while using their corporate PBX profile on the road. With its new emphasis on enterprise-grade redundancy and security — as well as integration into Cisco’s Motion to aid in roaming decisions among networks — Agito’s RoamAnywhere Solution builds upon its already outstanding fingerprint location deterministics, line-side PBX integration, and solid client-side software. All of this provides an outstanding solution to help extend companies’ existing infrastructure to the mobile work force.”

According to Agito:

Agito Networks’ award-winning RoamAnywhere Mobility Router uniquely fuses WiFi, cellular, IP telephony, and location information, improving the accessibility and responsiveness of mobile workers, while drastically reducing mobile costs (http://www.agitonetworks.com/products). RoamAnywhere mobilizes voice and unified communications for enterprises of all sizes, extending PBX and deskphone features to mobile phones. In addition, RoamAnywhere provides industry-leading handover between WiFi and cellular networks to reduce cellular costs and improve in-building coverage. Purpose-built for the enterprise, RoamAnywhere uniquely offers high availability, redundancy, security, enterprise scalability, and the industry’s broadest mobile handset and IP-PBX support. It works with all cellular network technology, and natively integrates with enterprises’ existing equipment, including WLAN infrastructure and directory stores.

“Among the nearly 20 awards Agito Networks has earned in 2008, being recognized by eWEEK as one of 2008’s best products as a result of a hands-on technical product review is a significant honor,” said Pejman Roshan, Agito Networks vice president of marketing and the company’s co-founder. “Agito Networks and eWEEK share a similar focus on the enterprise, which rang through in the technical review write up. Customers are selecting RoamAnywhere for its unique enterprise-class capabilities for mobile Unified Communications and convergence, including scalability to thousands of users, high availability, security, Dual Persona(TM), ease of set up, and native integration into WLAN environments and directory stores. Also, a primary focus of the review was seamless handover — all the industry players claim it, this review and award prove Agito has it.”

Hannah Montana Crank Calls: VoIP Mischief

Source: gigaom.com

Crank calls have never been so easy.

As folks on Reddit have pointed out, Disney’s Hannah Montana Wake-Up Call makes getting up to no good a snap. Just enter your friend’s victim’s phone number and the delightful Miley Cyrus’s voice will wake them up or send them a reminder: “Dear [name], don’t forget that today you have [activity].”

Opening a web-to-phone system to the public without authentication or constraints may be fun — but it’s also ripe for abuse. Without authentication of the sender, users are free to enter any source phone number they want, making it look like the calls are coming from someone else. There’s no opt-out mechanism or audit trail. Even attempts to constrain the system can be circumvented: You can change the recipient’s time zone and wake them up in the middle of the night, or back-date the wake-up call to have it placed immediately.

Visitors must be over 18 to use the service — not exactly Cyrus’ fan base. But it probably won’t make the calls any more mature or limit the mischief.

As we integrate Internet, telephony, mobility and video, we can’t forget the lessons learned online. It’s too easy to let features like authentication, transparency, opt-out and masquerading prevention fall by the wayside in a land grab for names and numbers.

After just 10 hours on Reddit people were reporting the service was swamped, yielding messages like, “Sorry, that number’s already been scheduled for five calls.” Page load times were sluggish, and the fun is likely to end soon.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a sister who needs a wake-up call.

SP360, New Cisco Service Provider Blog!

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Jeff Spagnola of Cisco Service Provider Blog mentioned my site as one of the sites that he reads and made me really happy to be listed among other prominent voip bloggers like Smith on VoIP, Light Reading Blogs, Telco 2.0,.
But before noting my sites name, there were bunch of interesting information that Jeff provides with hi post, the first post in the new Blogs@Cisco site, Cisco SP360 Blog. This new blog will include contributions from a team of Cisco leaders and executives. Jeff promise to cover the latest service provider trends and technologies and topics including Video, Mobility, Managed Services, Technology and Standards, and overall Industry News and Trends. I think this will be a very interesting Blog.
Yes I am partial to Cisco, that is where I got my VoIP feet wet. Before all these people who now talk about Unified communications, Cisco Call manger was doing it eons ago, in computer years! Of course numerous Cisco Routers and Switches that I have gone through just added experience as well as filling up shelf space in my collections. I still have my first 2501 router for sentimental value as the technology developed with the help of that router have made my life much better!
But world, and Cisco have come a long way from 2501 router and Cisco call Manager. So learning about those new trends will be much easier now since we know where to go for information.
Here is some thing for starters, Jeff mentioned Cisco Connected Life Contest that you can participate and who knows you might win the Grand price of $10,000.00!

I loved the little piece about GPS! Because, right now, I am working with GPS technology for a client that want to track something very similar to teenager in the dark!
