El Salvadore Mobile Market to Grow

Source: www.voip-news.com

A new report from Pyramid Research shows that El Salvador’s fixed and mobile data markets will double by 2014 thanks to growing use of mobile data services, fixed broadband and pay-TV.

“Mobile services and broadband have been the engine for growth with penetration of the population closing at 100 percent and 2 percent, respectively, in 2008. Pyramid expects that the Salvadorian telecommunications markets will see most growth from mobile data services, fixed broadband, and pay-TV, all of which are underpenetrated segments as of 2009,”says Jose Magana, analyst and author of the report.

According to the report:

Communications Markets in El Salvador offers a precise, incisive profile of the country’s converged telecommunications, media, and technology sectors based on proprietary data from our research in the Salvadorian market. The 28-page report provides detailed competitive analysis of both the fixed and mobile sectors, tracks the market shares of technologies and services, and monitors the introduction and spread of new technologies such as WiMax, IPTV, and VoIP. This executive study provides a comprehensive view of the Salvadorian communications market by analyzing key trends, evaluating near-term opportunities, and assessing upcoming risks and factors. “Mobile data services is expected to grow at a CAGR of 22.6 percent over the next five years, thanks to infotainment services such as music, ringtones, mobile video, and mobile Internet,” Magana says. “Pyramid anticipates operators will focus their efforts on promoting data services as 3G handsets will account for 36 percent of the total base by 2014 from 4 percent in 2009,” he says.

VoIP Apps Prohibited for Microsoft Mobile Market

Source: www.voip-news.com

VoIP is persona non grata in the new Microsoft Mobile Market store set to launch later this year. So are applications that will change the default browser on a Windows-based mobile phone.  … but that’s not all.

According to PC World:

Among the list of prohibited applications is VoIP services that run over an operator’s network. That’s a common item on such lists because operators fear that the services will displace their own voice offerings, which bring in the bulk of their revenue. Developers presumably will be able to offer VoIP applications that use Wi-Fi, though.

Also forbidden are programs that allow people to shop at competing application stores, or that change a phone’s default browser, search client or media player. Developers will also be unable to build programs that change the default phone dialer, short message service or multimedia messaging service interface. That could help ensure that standards for services like MMS are upheld.

Seems like a lot of rein-holding to me. And if there is one thing that we all know, it’s that the tighter you hold the reins, the less control you have.

India To Become Second Largest Wireess Market In The World, Beating Out USA.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

According to reports around the net, India is set to become the second largest mobile user collection after China. With the current rate of expansion, it will beat USA in the near future. So mobile phone makers now have a good reason to take their whole factories to India, not just out sourcing of labor. One caveat though, thay may have to sell the phones at low rates that they have been enjoying with out sourced labor.

NEW DELHI: India, which added 8.53 million new mobile users in February, is set to become the second-largest wireless market in the world after China by April 2008, telecom regulator TRAI said on Monday. As per data compiled by TRAI, India had 250.93 million wireless users by end-February, compared with 256 million in the US and 540.5 million in China.

“India’s monthly wireless subscriber addition is the highest in the range of 8-9 million. Thus, India’s wireless subscriber base during the first half of April 2008 will surpass that of the US and become the second-largest wireless network in the world. Not only this, the total subscriber base (wireless plus fixedline) of India will also cross the 300-million mark in April 2008,” TRAI said in a statement.

The Enterprise Mobile Market

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

We often look at prices of mobile service and think how little power the consumer has, but this story from e-Commerce Times really has me thinking about the Enterprise Market and VoIP/Dual Mode capabilities.

Verizon tries to beat iPhone with a LG Phone

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

I don’t like Verizon for the simple fact that it want to keep you and I in the dark when it comes to mobile communications.
For the same reason I hope they will fail with this attempt. I am not a big fan of AT&T nor iPhone, (I like other apple stuff) but Open access is a big mile stone for communications in USA.
So here a pointer talking about LG Voyager!
