Internet services help to cut consumers’ phone bills

They cover Jajah, Rebtel, Talkplus, Truphone, EQO Mobile, Mino Wireless and iSkoot. I would have liked to read also about Gizmo Project, Mobivox, Fring or Mobiboo. But then again the article appeared on page C - 1 of the San Francisco Chronicle, and paper isn’t endless.

T-Mobile UK vs. Truphone: Just the 1st of Hydra’s heads

Source: goebel.net

T-Mobile UK is blocking calls to mobile VoIP start-up Truphone. That’s a serious issue which caused interesting discussions and points of view. As GigaOM puts it: "CellCarriers fear mobile VoIP planet". That’s more or less how I see it as well.

After the fixed line carriers got shaken up by VoIP now it’s the mobiles’ turn. T-Mobile UK tries to defend its well established business. Maybe Truphone shouldn’t have said that they now support VoIP over 3G. It’s the old fear of the traditional mobile carriers and one of the main reasons why they kept the mobile data rates sky high in the last years: To loose their comfortable voice revenues.

Rebtel’s CEO Hjalmar Windbladh explained to me not so long ago that mobile carries pay only 0.8 Cent to connect a call between Germany and China. But they charge 1 Euro or more from the customer, depending on his contract. These big margins would get lost with VoIP over 3G and maybe that’s the reason why T-Mobile UK wants to dry out its competition before it gets too strong.

But this is like trying to cut all of Hydra’s heads. It’s not only Truphone which is offering VoIP over 3G and over Wifi. It’s also Fring, Wifimobile, Mobiboo, Yeigo, aql and thousands of other companies worldwide. In fact every SIP based VoIP provider can do a quite similar job like Truphone. It makes no difference if you install your SIP login data into a mobile phone or an ATA or a soft phone.

I especially like it to have my fixed line home number ring on my mobile phone. For that I use Wifi or a call forward over GSM. Outgoing calls are nearly free or free via calltrough or Wifi.

Just like at Truphone.

Mobiboo aims to unseat Skype, in UK, with “all you can call” plan

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Tech Digest’s Andy tells me that Mobiboo has announced a low cost unlimited calls tariff for both home and business users, allowing unlimited free calls to UK geographical numbers, and low cost call rates to UK mobiles and overseas numbers.

For £39.99 per year (personal) or £89.99 per year (business), and the download of Mobiboo’s Dashboard PC software, your computer becomes a screen phone, similar in nature to what Skype offers.

Mobiboo extends Mobile VoIP service

Source: voipcentral.org

mvoip

Two days back, I told here that Mobile VoIP is dominating UK market. I just hinted about Mobiboo, the nations first commercial VoIP WiFi network operator and its service offers in the post. Now, the mobile VoIP service of Mobiboo has been official launched.

This post is intended to put some more lights on the mobile VoIP service with special reference to Mobiboo VoIP service.

Mobiboo is offering its VoIP mobile services with two devices. These are UTStarcoms F3000 and Mobiboo Dashboard.

The F300 is a clamshell-design WiFi phone while Dashboard is a medium to send instant messages and files to other Mobiboo Dashboard users.

Using the Mobiboo service, the user can make calls through UTStarcoms F3000 whenever they are in range of an open WiFi hotspot or wireless router.

A company statement reads ,

The cost-savings of VoIP have already been proven by companies such as Skype. Mobiboo has gone one step further to replicate a true mix of traditional mobile, DECT and landline phone services to provide both residential and business customers with a credible alternative, thus giving real value for money. In a nut shell, a mobile number, DECT functionality and landline pricing with the additional coverage available with WiFi.

With the increase in public WiFi hotspots, the demand for mobile VoIP devices as well as services has increased tremendously.

Observing Britons inclination to access VoIP services via mobile phones, three companies Rok Entertainment, AQL and Mobiboo have launched their VoIP-based mobile phones to hit the UK market.

Rok Viper

Rok Entertainment, which is offering 2.5 G mobile TV offering, will provide completely free VoIP calls using Rok Viper technology, the technology brings VoIP services to the mobile phones.

The users can also make free Skype calls when both the sender and receiver use Viper software. However, calls to existing PSTN landlines could be slightly expensive.

As of now, Nokias N70 will include the Viper technology. The unique feature of the Viper software is that it links phones to broadband connection using Bluetooth technology instead of depending upon Wi-Fi connection.

Rok plans to add around 100 models to the list of compatible mobile phone including Java-powered handsets and Windows devices in the next three months.

At present, the software is available on the Rok Viper web site.

AQL for Nokia E series

After axing Totaltalk, AQL is now planning to offer its VoIP services through Nokia E series. The UK customers just require to send a text message nokia to the short code 64446. The phone will receive a message which automatically connects AQLs system via Wi-Fi. Then, they can access free VoIP services.

Companys managing director, Dr. Adam Beaumont explains,

We are keen for all E series Nokia users to text-in so that they can experience for themselves the quality of our mobile VoIP service, without the necessity of switching from their existing GSM provider.

Mobiboo

The leading VoIP WiFi network operator Mobiboo has also announced the launch of its mobile VoIP service. The customers will make VoIP calls using any of the two devices UTStarcom’s F3000 and the Mobiboo Dashboard PC phone.

Meanwhile, the company has joined resources with the hotspot provider The Cloud to provide good hotspot coverage in the UK.

Despite expert reports that phones loaded with VoIP are not safe and open for spamming, the UK customers are inclined to access the mobile VoIP.
