Comverse, the world’s leading supplier of software and systems enabling network-based multimedia enhanced communication and billing services, today announced that Max Telecom, a new telecom operator in Bulgaria, has launched voice and data services for residential and corporate subscribers over its WiMAX infrastructure using the Comverse MyCall Converged Communications, IPCentrex and business trunking solutions.

"As a greenfield operator in a very competitive market, we required a solution that enabled fast time to market," said Krassimir Stoitcheff, CEO of Max Telecom. "Using Comverse IP telephony solutions, we were able to migrate subscribers in a totally transparent way to receive voice services via a WiMAX access point we brand as MaxVox.

Now our customers receive the benefit of high quality voice at an attractive price as part of a single, cost-effective service bundle."

MyCall Converged Communications delivers a complete, pre-integrated, IP-based telephony solution that improves time to market, reduces operational costs and easily scales up to meet high-capacity requirements.

Primary line capabilities and a range of embedded value-added applications enable service providers to create a more competitive and profitable portfolio of services. MyCall Converged Communications is based on a future-proof, IMS architecture and operates on Comverse’s market leading Class 5 Application Server.

It can be fully integrated with the complete Comverse portfolio of billing and value-added services solutions.

"This is an exciting implementation as Max Telecom is a fully integrated, IP-based next-generation network service provider using end-to-end IP-based infrastructure over WiMAX, and this leads to many innovative services while maximizing the cost efficiencies of IP Communications," commented Franck Darmon, Vice President and General Manager of Comverse Converged IP Communications.

"Comverse’s IP telephony solutions have been deployed by over 80 operators worldwide, and represent over seven million Voice over IP lines in commercial service. Alec Saunders The MC

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

Alec Saunders of client iotum is taking a page out of the book of Ken Rutkowski and I and becoming the MC at this Monday’s Demo Camp 9.

Are we seeing a new wave of hosts for events coming out of the blogosphere when in the past they came usually from the media and analyst community?

I think we are. Let’s not discount the fact Om Malik hosts his own Structure 08 and Michael Arrington and Jason Calcanis host the Tech Crunch 50, but those are what we call "house events" as they are putting on their own events so they get to be stars of their own productions. But in the case of Alec, just like with Ken and I, we’re invited to host the events, which is a big differentiator. In the case of Ken and me, we host the annual CommNexus Gadget Fest in San Diego.

More Reflection on AOL and Open AIM VoIP

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

AOL has been behind SIP for over three years or more. They are not jumping on board now. They are simply using what little they have left to SPIN this. Alec pretty much nailed it here as did Ken Camp.

What’s really here?…and more importantly, is anyone going to use a platform which is:

1) Pricier?

2) One way calling?

3) May not be there in six months?

Over the past 18 months the entire Voice team at AOL has been cut layer by layer and dismantled. Their mobile group also.

What’s more, before that AOL made a big deal about the Vonage/CallVantage Competitor (whatever it was called) then canned that, leavingcustomers hanging. Why? Could it have been Time Warner Cable. Rumor has it they didn’t want AOL to have a major voice play and guess what?

TWC looks like they have won that battle as the triple play only helped inflate their revenues.

So now at a time when TWC is being spun out someone says "oh, now we can launch voice again because they are no longer our big brother."

Caring about SIP and developers? I don’t think so. If there isn’t an advertisement in the window, AOL/TimeWarner can care less. It’s that simple.

AOL had the opportunity, the platform and the people. Now all they have is a bunch of code, some infrastructure and a team that’s hanging on to keep their jobs or have something to put on their resume.

Alec and Bill Volk have both heard the promises,,,,what has been delivered? ????

Alec Saunders On The AOL Open AIM VOIP Program

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

Alec gets up to bat and swings a heavy club this morning as he lays out his perspective based on experience of working with AOL and their now apparently defunct AIM PhoneLine developer program.

His event by event account isn’t a pretty picture and should be noticed.

It should make for an interesting Sqawk Box today.

Mobivox Garners Alec’s Attention

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

Alec Saunders who run agency client iotum, has a very crisp post today about another client, Mobivox and their new features. The one I am personally most excited about is Send Message.

Speech to text is getting much better. With SpinVox, SimulScribe both charging hard in the space to go after carrier deck type business, while selling direct as well, there will be a lot of heat in this area in the coming months. CallWave has also entered the fray with Fuze, a new Unified Communications play.

What I like about both the Mobivox and Callwave plays vs. the one trick ponies of Simulscribe and SpinVox is the costs to the end user will be lower, and you’re using one interface not many. In the case of Mobivox it’s simply your voice, while CallWave’s Fuze is a very slick web interface.

We continue to see convergence occur, but instead of the it being networks or devices, we’re seeing services converge more rapidly than ever before. This is good for the end user, as pricing will only come down as service providers can bundle high value, low cost features, with higher margin services to take a larger cut of the wallet.

Von-Thoughts, Reflections and More

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

Jon Arnold sent me a note wondering why I hadn’t posted much about VON. Well for starters it was because I was very busy there inside and around the event.

On site I did what meetings I needed to. I wandered into booths that interested me and had the briefings with companies that seem to know how to reach out the right way. Some of the meetings were exciting, telling me that we’ve yet to hit the mature part of the cycle. Others, reminded me of my old days in sports where the opposition was so weak they could have mailed us the two points for the win column. In the case of those boring and lifeless presentations, next time they can email me the Powerpoint.

So you see, maybe because I set up a lot of meetings before VON Blur began I forgot to leave time to write about it. Or just maybe its because 3 of the Top Ten Innovators were clients of my agency and/or I sit on their Advisory Boards. Or that five of the 65 are. Or that between the informal Sunday Night Dinner at the Grill on The Alley with over a dozen gustes, the Jeff Pulver Social Networking Breakfast, the Dean Elwood hosted VoIP User Dinner and my own hosted Wine Dinner and all the people who made it to those events.

You see, those very personal events, around the event, only happen when there’s an event like VON, eComm, DEMO, CTIA, CES or something of an industry assembling nature. The hotel lobbies were regularly my meeting room. So was the VON lobby, the speakers lounge and the press room. All those locations had a steady stream of people coming in and going out. And ironically, these are the same people who rarely walk the floor other than to grab a brochure, sneak in a quick demo or walk over to the VON Theatre, an idea I really like.

Without events like VON, TMC’s IT Expo, Channels, VoiceCon and Comptel, our industry won’t easily get together. And that’s what annual events are for.

Welcome To A New Telecom Blogger

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

I was approached at eComm by a new telecom blogger yesterday and wanted to welcome him to the open world of blogging. He’s never hit my radar before, but new players are always a good thing. If anything we need more bloggers to replace some who have seen to move in new directions in life.

Welcome to the show, BellHead.

iPhone SDK Roadmap Will Come On March 6th, Through A Selected Few

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Techcrunch is telling us that Apple has sent out an email to the media announcing a March 6th event for laying out an "iPhone Software Roadmap" that will focus on the SDK that I mentioned this morning,  as well as "new enterprise features". This event is invitation only and you guessed right, I do not have an invitation ;). I will be looking out for news from those lucky ones, unless I have the email on my Apple account which I have not checked yet.

High Def Video Tested By Alec

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

I’ve been wanting to get around to testing the new Logitech High Def webcam that came over the holidays, but since both the Mac and the Flybook already have webcams built in, I’ve not had the reason to.

Alec’s post today reminds me that maybe I should try it with the Flybook when I take another business trip.
