I Joost so I Meebo (My Joosting has taken me to Meebo)

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

If you remember Joost, a project by the founders of Skype, that I am enjoying very much, has added Meebo for it’s Channel Chat, IM platform. I wrongly thought it would be Skype but anything! May be due to restrictions on Skype IM platform! But this widget seems to be great and Meebo is what Joost widgets developers chose. There are many other widgets there and if you want to add develop widgets for Joost, they are arranging some developer days in a few cities.
There are three coming up pretty soon:

  • London, November 16
  • Amsterdam, December 1
  • New York, December 7

If you want to sign up for one of these sessions, email dev-workshop@joost.com. You can also Check out http://blogs.joost.com/dev to find out what the other developers are thinking and doing.

And the term Joosting was coined here!

Joost releases Beta version 1.0 for Mac and PC users

Source: voipcentral.org

Finally, everyones favorite P2P TV application is coming into version 1.0. Although it is still in a Beta 1.0 version but it has lot of improvements in it. Joost has updated its service by releasing a beta 1.0 version of the P2P software, which brings a new spoon UI with it.

Yes, totally modified user interface would be the first thing which you will notice after you install the client. It has completely re-designed Channel guide, which is renamed to Explore and animates out a list of available categories to choose from. 19877 One important thing, I have noticed about version 1.0 is the fact, which you can drag and drop thumbnails of different programs in the Explore Programs section to create personal channels.

Once you hold your mouse over the thumbnail you can also get the Add to my Channels option, which will make you more convenient to just drag and drop without previewing. The ‘Invite Friends’ option is now integrated with the widget menu, along with the ‘Blog This’ and ‘User Profile’ feature.

Now you can share shows with friends, either within Joost itself using chat or by sending Joost Links by mail or putting them on your blog or website. The new version of the P2P application has become more tolerant of poor network performance and will attempt to retry and restart streams that have become stalled. People who are running Windows Vista, they have to install the administrator privileges because Joost 1.0’s installer no longer uses a stub loader to run the application and this removes the requirement for compatibility dlls to be loaded.

From Joost to Babelgum, IPTV is getting better!

Today I tested out Babelgum and the first impression is, it is not just for chewing and throw out! This looks like a keeper. At first I was reminded of Joost but that thought disappears as soon as you start to look in to innards of the program.
As usual I had to specifically allow my firewall to reach Babel networks. The version is still beta but the file version number is 1.0.0.1 ans product version number is 1.0.9.1. It also tells me that the program language is Italian. We it tells me more but need to read EULA or rules before posting more information. Pretty neat firewall eh!
Once set up and registered, I was presented with a initiative interface that you see in the image above. The usage setup and exploration could be done without a manual. I have added fourt item, based on tags voyage, explore to the default menu choice in the middle. Once you get used (in just a few minutes!) you will be longing for more videos.
Another thing I noticed is that the Babelgum is pretty good with memory. It used about 75MB and kept to that amount through out the operation. Joost used to mushroom into about 400MB during a similar session. I think that was the only negative feed back I had for Joost.
You can sign off from BabelGum but the program keeps the channels open and I see very little activity in the network. Seems like a well behaved P2P program.

My firewall says BabelGum opened 6 Channels; two outbound, two inbound and two listen channels. But the 7th channel, an out bound one, kept popping up. Seems to be clean.

You will hear more about the BabelGum from me and my testing. You can test yourself by visiting their site and joining the beta program. They also have a very informative Blog. If you need an invite, leave a comment.

Until I edit the template; Babelgum

Viacom in the Juice, Joost

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

VoIP IP Telephony @ http://snapvoip.blogspot.com

I find from from multiple news sources that Joost has inked a deal with Viacom for video distribution.

Motley Fool says that Joost will protect Viacom’s copyrights as well as give the media giant as much as two-thirds of the ad revenue. Even though YouTube has struck revenue-sharing deals with content providers in the past, the soft policing of infringing uploads has been frustrating to some entertainment companies.

May be Joost wil have enough money that they will buy unyielding Viacom some day! (That is my prediction, not motley fool’s.)
Then the CNET news tells us that The deal is limited, at least at first: many of Viacom’s most popular programs, such as Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report and South Park, will not be available initially. Some of the featured offerings, however, will be MTV’s My Super Sweet 16, Comedy Central’s Freak Show, BET’s American Gangster, as well as feature films from Paramount and its related brands.
OK, I am waiting to see those stuff on Joost.
I really like what I have seen during my testing of Joost. And looking forward to see more sooner.
Folks, Joost is getting better, as the time and software releases passes.
