iPhone Development Or Android Development? Both Inviting!!

Apple, Google vie for hearts (and wallets) of developers
This is the title of an excellent article on
Posted by Stefanie Olsen
It was a nice view of the current developer interest on attractive mobile platforms. The facts on iPhone development funding of 100 million and unsaid Apple iPhone Developer kit compared with Google’s Android developer challenge paired with 10Million prize money makes one think that developers will flock to iPhone.
But I think Android has another big advantage, open! There  were developers that wanted to get on the iPhone platform and surprisingly denied by apple. But I have not heard of anyone getting denied by Android. As I write, my Android Development environment is running on a virtual machine on this computer. No I am not developing any applications but evaluating an application for a company that I consult. My iMac has most of the Apple developer products but iPhone developer kit.(It also has the Android Developer platform running!) One of these days I will have it because the same company I consult got the approval and I will have to go through the codes and what not. I hope I will be able to say "Google Phone Coming Soon" again and get dugg.
But I think you should read the Stefanie’s article as it might shed light on darker corners of your developer desk.

Google Phone (GPhone) Second Coming!

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

I know I had a good run with "Google Phone coming soon" but now I found another article about a new face of the gPhone. Let me correct myself, many faces of many gPhones!
As the said article mentioned, the best way to go and find what gPhone will look like is to look into the work by the independent developers who are playing around with the Android SDK and Open Handset Alliance. There will be many different GPhones, developed by many companies and I am sure they will operate on the upcoming "open" spectrum block that the auction is being held now.

‘”Google Phone is Coming Soon” with a touch screen!’

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

According to BusinessWeek, HTC might be the first of the alliance to bring out the Google Phone. So what I said a few months ago, I can repeat; ‘"Google Phone is Coming Soon" with a touch screen!’
Florian Seiche, HTC’s European vice president, said that the company’s goal was to provide a "broad portfolio" of devices targeting various segments of the market, from consumer to enterprise. Android devices, he said, would fall squarely into the relatively new consumer side of HTC’s business, targeted this year with the Touch phone.

"The core nature of Android is the fact that the internet should be put right at the centre of your mobile experience," said Seiche. "It is fair to say that it will be very much focused on the growing part of the consumer market that is using mobile devices for much more than voice calls and text messages."

Seiche claimed that HTC was "fairly far along" in the development of the handset, as demonstrated by the time frame for the device’s release.

Technical details of the device are currently scarce–many aspects of the platform will only become apparent when the Android software developer kit (SDK) is released next week–but Seiche hinted that "it’s fair to say that touchscreens are becoming extremely important for providing user experience".

iPhone vs gPhone will lead us to iGPhone

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Update: It has already been invented, I meant the iGPhone! See below for the Photo and connection! PS watch out for lead paint.

Even though the gPhone is yet to emerge, discussions about security and other aspects of the phones.
Some are concerned about openness of gPhone without realizing the roots of MAC OX X and that the code is somewhat open!;
"As the first major computer company to make Open Source development a key part of its ongoing software strategy, Apple remains committed to the Open Source development model. Major components of Mac OS X, including the UNIX-based core, are made available under Apple’s Open Source license, allowing developers and students to view source code, learn from it and submit suggestions and modifications. In addition, Apple uses software created by the Open Source community, such as the HTML rendering engine for Safari, and returns its enhancements to the community."
According to Apple itself.
So the pundits, change the course, find some thing else to argue about and attract media attention. Because Open Source vs Closed Source does not work here.
Penny for a thoughts; Apple iPhone operates in a root environment (with admin rights, to Microsoft people) and I am almost ready to bet my bad writing on gPhone will run with root permissions! ;).
So there goes iPhone could join the " Open Handset Alliance " (gPhone) or create iGPhone (i God Phone) doing away with Jesus Phone.

There might be a Google Phone in OpenSocial!

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

If you have forgotten, amidst the noise about Google Phone or gPhone, that Google made headlines here and elsewhere, when it said plans to bid in the upcoming 700-MHz auction and it’s attempt to keep it open as in "Open Access" together FCC and other organization. Verizon even took FCC to court over the same issue.

Google’s Schmidt said Monday, during the press conference, that Android and the 700-MHz issue are "two separate initiatives", but if policymakers agree to the open access, a 700-MHz environment that will allows people to connect devices.", Android would certainly "run on that network,".

Schmidt also mentioneded that Google’s OpenSocial network "will be a framework that will run well on Android.", answering my question "Will Google Phone or Gphone play a role in OpenSocial?"

We worked on this phone; "VOIP IP Telephony: Google Phone coming soon!" for a while now.

No gPhone (Google Phone) But Open Handset Alliance and Android.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Google (Andy Rubin) announced today that we will not be getting a gPhone ( Google Phone) but two other interesting things!;
"the Open Handset Alliance and Android — is more significant and ambitious than a single phone. In fact, through the joint efforts of the members of the Open Handset Alliance, we hope Android will be the foundation for many new phones and will create an entirely new mobile experience for users, with new applications and new capabilities we can’t imagine today."

I think I am more interested in Android, which is the first truly open and comprehensive platform for mobile devices. It includes an operating system, user-interface and applications and a Development Kit will come along as well.

Here is a video you could watch about a magic phone;

Father Of Google Phone and the First Comprehensive Look at gPhone and the Man Behind It.

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

Today I ran across this article by NY Times that gave a full disclosure of the creator of gPhone, Andy Rubin. I enjoyed the article and it put a whole new light on Google Phone, as I was one proud owner of a SideKick, the father of gPhone.

Will Google Phone or Gphone play a role in OpenSocial?

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

With all the talk we have flowing around about Google’s OpenSocial that sent it’s stocks soring past $700 mark
, I think that Google Phone also has a big place in this game. Perhaps that is one of the packages that Google might be selling to wireless carriers. Just imagine the amount of test messaging and contact traffic that a few Social networks might generate!
Perhaps the idea of the API for was born out of designing apps for Google phone. I think I am stretching in all directions but read the Press release on WeSeePeople, and you might get your own ideas about where Google is heading with new tools.

Is Google Betting on Every Horse so that it will not Lose in the Mobile Race?

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

According to an article by a team of analysts on Reuters tries to explain the fate of Google with Gphone. The article seems to be of a value at first glance. But once you read through you get the feeling that you knew the information already. It is some thoughts about Gphone that the analysts do not know about, (they did not get a single word from anyone directly saying yes or no) but a good article if you messed the news about Google Phone for last few weeks.
There are many other countries than do not restrict the phones used on cellular networks. So I think all these analysts are thirsty for information like we all are. Come on Google, shed some light on us.
I have had better news from Reuters. The Analysis!

Will Google Phone Gphone have Verizon on It?

Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

I just read most funny (to me) story about Gphone! If this is the case I think I will not will have the Gphone, even though I am waiting for it! It seems this Grumor originated with a talk from Verizon Chief Operating Officer Denny Strigl admitted on Monday during an investor call that the phone company has been in talks with a lot of companies, including Google.
But they could easily spoken about integrating Google search on Verizon phones. Well… here is the news com article.
