What’s Best For Fixed Mobile Convergence?

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

Dean Bubley, with whom I shared an amazing meal at Eyre Brothers in London with on Thursday, only before an even more sublime and decadent dinner at the Fat Duck with Lord Prais, the original founder of Chumbo, feels the N95 is the best mobile phone for Fixed Mobile Convergence use. I guess that’s what happens after a bottle of great Spanish wine, serious talk about technology and product placement as Dean was able to be see it on the table all night :-)

In all seriousness. Dean has taken a researcher view of what works best in which scenarios and come up with some solid recommendations. I’ve first hand seen and heard about the impact of the Huawei family of USB-connected 3G modems he also writes about here in the UK. As I check out mobile phone stores the clerks tell me in 3’s shops how many of the little dongles they are selling. With plans starting as low as 10 pounds a month, mobile data is far less expensive here than in the USA. With strong sales as an indicator here, mayb ethe USA mobile brands need to lower price, buy and sell easier to use and install modems and get more people switched on when they’re on the go.

Fixed Mobile Convergence Getting Serious Interest

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

In one day, two of the largest Network Equipment providers, Nortel and NokiaSiemens have said FMC is important to them.

First Nortel and Qualcomm announced a real IMS strategy that delivers Voice Call Continuity that is designed to help operators deliver on the promise that companies like BridgePort Networks and others have been selling to the carriers. Then NokiaSiemens Networks raised their had with the Communications Key, a look a like, sound alike in written form to the BridgePort Networks Mobile Stick.

This tells me that FMC is far from dead. It’s just getting legs.
