New Cellular VoIP From TCM Mobile

Source: www.voip-news.com

There is a new cellular service that’s using free, unlicensed spectrum to offer high-quality sevice using VoIP technology. TCM Mobile says that they introduced the service after several years of development and testing, and that it’s available for licensing. This allows carriers to enter the market without purchasing dedicated spectrum.

“TCM Mobile has resolved the major challenges associated with developing this type of system, such as eliminating interference, roaming seamlessly (seamless hand-off) and creating a successful network architecture,” said a senior TCM Mobile executive. “We are proud to announce that we have achieved our goals and look forward to demonstrating our technology to the world.”

According to TCM:

With its own team of engineers, TCM Mobile has developed and built the entire system, including base stations, handsets and all related hardware and software necessary to operate, maintain and control its system.

TCM Mobile has deployed its network in downtown Syracuse, New York, a city well-known for field-testing of emerging communication technologies, with the support of the city and its technology-friendly environment.

Cellular VoIP to sideline Fixed VoIP in US and West Europe

In one of my posts here, I discussed about the companies that offer mobile VoIP phones for the UK customers. My intention was to tell you how mobile VoIP is dominating the UK. Today, I came across an Analysis report which made me sure that cellular VoIP will gradually sideline the fixed VoIP services in the next six years, though the report takes the case of USA and West Europe.

In the report Forecasting the Commercial Impact of Wireless VoIP in the USA and Western Europe, the Analysis says the cellular VoIP service would generate revenues worth $18.6 billion in the USA and $7.3 billion in Western Europe by 2012. The revenues from the fixed VoIP services would be $11.9 billion and $6.9 billion in these regions, respectively during the same period.

The mobile operators would be compelled to shift their voice services from circuit switched voice to VoIP due to the upgradation of CDMA2000 1x Evolution Data Optimized(EV-DO) networks to Revision A from 2007 and the upgradation of W-CDMA networks to 3G Long Term Evolution(LTE) by 2010.

The report further says cellular VoIP will carry 28percent of all fixed and mobile voice minutes in US and 23 percent in Western Europe by 2015. Cellular VoIP will dominate the mix of wireless VoIP services in the developed markets. Therefore, WiMAX would play a greater role in the Voice market, the report predicts.
