New Conference Phone Can Make 5-Way Calls

Source: www.voip-news.com

There is a new SIP-based conference phone from Konftel. The Konftel 300IP records and stores calls on a memory card and also allows for five-way calls. Five way calls! Personalized profiles of users can also be set up.

“Surveys indicate that we will see an increase in the number of teleconferences in the future because of the time-saving, economic and environmental benefits they offer. An increasing number of companies are replacing their switchboards with IP telephony in order to save money and be able to coordinate communication. For them, the Konftel 300IP will be of great interest,” concludes Peter Renkel.

The Konftel 300IP works with both IP PBX systems and VoIP service.

“We are very pleased to be able to broaden our product range with one of the market’s most advanced IP conference phones. Now we can offer a telephone that combines all the benefits of an IP telephone with our innovative functions,” comments Peter Renkel, CEO at Konftel.

It will be available in December.

VoIP Carriers Must Allow Emergency Calls in EU

Source: www.voip-news.com

VoIP carriers abroad must now allow emergency calls via their VoIP to landline systems and also provide location information where feasible, thanks to a ruling by regulator Ofcom. Emergency is 999 in the UK and 112 most elsewhere there.

The problem was highlighted after a Calgary, Canada, child died after a VoIP emergency call was placed and gave the wrong location of the emergency. Critics of the regulation say that there are some services that don’t have a reasonable expectation of needing to make emergency calls from the phone because they aren’t intended as landline replacements.

Browser-Based Calls Work

Source: www.voip-news.com

The problem with softphones is that they require software specific to operating system and machine to be installed on a PC before you can use it. Not so with browser-based phones. Browser-based phones need only be compatible with a browser.

Browser-based applications can bring cheap international calls to both PCs and Macs.

To read more about their benefits, check out this VoIP News feature.

Nearly Free Overseas Skype Calls?

Source: www.voip-news.com

Overseas Skype calls for nearly free? Yep, it’s possible with a service called Talkster. VoIP News has the details.

In VoIP as elsewhere, small changes can have surprising consequences. Take Skype Ltd.’s recently released feature that lets users attach certain caller-ID numbers to SkypeOut calls. One consequence of this new feature will be that Skype users can avoid paying Skype’s international calling rates. All they’ll need to do is make SkypeOut calls that start out local but travel overseas through Talkster’s ad-supported Free World Dialing service, which could save them as much as 25 cents per minute.

Alanzo from AT&T Calls To Advise Me that They Dispatched the Repair Job to Someone on Vacation

Source: alanweinkrantz.typepad.com

Yes, re-read the headline in this post.  It’s now 4:50 PM.

I just got a call from someone named Alanzo.  He called me to let me know that help was on the way (I guess they borrowed this from John Edwards who used to say that "hope was on the way….")

He apologized for the mishap, but now as it turns out, AT&T dispatched the call to someone who was actually on vacation.

Yes, dear kind readers this is true.

I asked Alanzo how they could do this and his response was that he did not know.

I realize that AT&T is really a great company and all, but this goes beyond the call of duty when it comes to communications and entertainment services….

Oh….I then called Gloria back at the 214-869-4488 number she gave me and all I got was voice mail.

Stay tuned for more.

Secret Messages in VoIP Calls?

Source: www.voip-news.com

This is all a little spy-movie-esk for me.

Have you ever had a fuzzy VoIP call? Well, it might not be just a bad connection. It could be someone intercepting your call and inserting secret messages into the packet. No, not kidding.

According to New Science Tech:

Wojciech Mazurczyk and Krzysztof Szczypiorski, information scientists at the Institute of Telecommunications in Warsaw, Poland, revealed last week that they are developing a “steganographic” system for VoIP networks (www.arxiv.org/abs/0805.2938). Steganography is the art of hiding messages by embedding them in ordinary communications.

A little freaky, no?

Truphone Offers Free/Cheap Calls Away From Wi-Fi

Source: www.voip-news.com

Truphone subscribers are now being offered free or cheap VoIP calls over the cellular network when they are away from Wi-Fi hot spots. The mobile VoIP solution uses a unique set-up to save customers money.

According to ComputerWorld:

“We’ve put together our mobile numbers and interconnect, with SIM4travel’s home location register,” said James Tagg, CEO of Truphone. The company has its own number range, which has enabled it to act as a mobile operator, and win against operators, including T-Mobile, which challenged this. In April, it raised another $33.6 million in venture funding to add to about $25 million, which it raised in 2007.

The idea of mobile VoIP is gaining ground in the U.K., with Australian operator Freshtel Pty. Ltd. launching a trial backed by a Tesco, and with a “buy one get one free” offer. Freshtel uses a VoIP client similar to the one that Truphone is installing on Nokia E and N series phones, and operates on any Wi-Fi.

VoipBuster, VoipStunt, InternetCalls: The Attack Of The Clones?

Source: voip-tech.blogspot.com

Three brother’s softwares, very very similar in the interface and functionality, these softwares allow us to call for free landlines phones in many countries, without time limit, but i red some articles somewhere on the web that said that VoipStunt after a certain number of minutes of free calls (about 40) didn’t allow to call the free destination countries and ask for a credit (like SkypeOut) to continue to make free calls over free destinations; it also could be a little bug in the software.
On the contrary, with InternetCalls there’s no time limits or calls, will it be true? For settle things once and for all I installed all the three softwares, using them within the time I will find out if effectively will be possible to continue to make free calls without limits.
If it will be not… well, just sign in with a new account and take advantage of more free calls.
Anyhow the italian translation i made for VoipStunt works perfectly also with InternetCalls and VoipBuster.
