Source: snapvoip.blogspot.com

MyNetFone’s announced that it had added 20,000 since it’s IPO in May.IInet has about 40,000 subscribers according to their announcement. Then Engin earlier this month of mentioned that it has 49,000 users. Engin Also mentioned that it was on track to reach 100,000 by June 2007. But the largest of all is Freshtel which had 351,000 at June 30 2006.
So all these come to about half a million users. Is this right? How about external providers, like Skype?.
Remember those mentioned above are Australia based VOIP providers.

Can VoIP WebPhone revitalize the payphone market?

Source: voipcentral.org

By large, the advent of mobile phone technology has sidelined payphone system from the mainstream. The situation is more or less same everywhere. Take the case of Australia, where the payphone tradition has been bumped with steady decline in the last 10 years.

The dwindling market condition has forced Telstra to lose money from 55 percent of its pay phones. Now the typical question arises, Can VoIP WebPhone revitalize payphone market?

Perth-based company, Pie Networks claims that it is launching a new VoIP WebPhone, which will bring cell phone users back to the payphone by offering cheaper local, long distance and mobile phone calls even than those available in capped payment plans.

The device is a combination of a Wi-Fi hotspot and VoIP phone, which will be able to check email applications, perform online transactions, download music from online retailers, transfer, and email their photographs from digital cameras.

The company is discussing with Telstra and other global carriers about the device. It also intends to sell directly to any retail outlet.

Freshtel gets mass market in Australia

Source: voipcentral.org

It is a resounding marketing deal between the Freshtel and Narta Group, the major electrical buying group in Australia. The agreement allows Freshtel to supply its VoIP products to Narta Group.

As we know, Narta deals with retail bigwigs like JB Hi-Fi, Clive Peeters, Clive Anthonys, Radio Rentals, David Jones, Bing Lee and Downtown Duty Free. With this marketing agreement, Freshtel would supply its product to the retail market in Australia.

Michael Carew, CEO at Freshtel stated,

Consumer demand has dictated that we supply our product to the retail market in Australia, although our core business white labeling our service to wholesale customers.

The alliance with Narta would enable Freshtel to grow a domestic retail business without any investment to serve a large number of retailers.

Earlier, the VoIP Company has unveiled a direct service delivery model in England, where Tesco uses a Freshtel white label solution.

IIA releases Vision 2010 for Australian Broadband network

Source: voipcentral.org

The Internet Industry Association (IIA) of Australia has prepared a vision for the broadband network, in which the national internet industry body conclusively said that most of the Australians should access to high-speed broadband connections (10 megabits per second or more) by the year 2010.

It is high time to enhance the speed of the national broadband network to enable Australia globally competitive in the coming days. It is mainly due to VoIP and blogging on platforms such as YouTube and MySpace would require more bandwidth in future, IIA says.

In its first ever report, IIA has urged 80 percent of the Australian should access to 10Mbit/s downstream broadband services by 2010, with 67 percent having access to 24Mbit/s or faster. At present, Australians access broadband services less than 1.5Mbit/s in terms of speed.
