New Release of NetEqualizer Helps Small Biz Run VoIP, Data Concurrently

Source: www.voip-news.com

There is a new release of NetEqualizer available from APconnections and it’s developed for WISPs and small business users. The new, smaller model is Power over the Ethernet as well, so it’s more flexibile for placement.

“About half of wireless network slowness comes from p2p (Bit Torrent) and video users overloading the access points,” said Joe D’Esopo, vice president of business development at APconnections. “We have had great success with our NE2000 series, but the price point of $2,500 was a bit too high to duplicate all over the network.”

According to APconnectionc:

The model was developed to meet a growing demand both for an affordable traffic shaping device to help small businesses run VoIP concurrent with data traffic over their Internet link as well as a need for a shaping unit with PoE for the WISP market.

In a large wireless network, congestion often occurs at tower locations. However, with a low-cost PoE version of the NetEqualizer, wireless providers can now afford to have advanced bandwidth control at or near their access distribution points.

The model starts at $1,200.

Corning Cable Systems Displaying At Data Centre World Expo

Source: www.voip-news.com

The 2009 Data Centre World Exhibition is coming in London next week. Scheduled for Feb. 24-25, the presenters will include Corning Cable Systems GmbH & Co KG, which will be showing their Plug & Play Universal Systems, designed to reduce the carbon footprint of data centers with the factory-terminated, modular components.

The company will also be showcasing their FutureCom EA system with the S500 Module, a universal general cabling solution for using Ethernet, VoIP, telephone, TV and other services.

Other highlights include:

- Pretium(R) Integrated Solutions Zero-U System, which features pre-engineered optical harnesses that map directly to the line card ports of major equipment vendor SAN directors. The Zero-U System includes MTP(R) Connector brackets mounted into the cabinet’s vertical manager to facilitate patching instead of consuming valuable rack space as is traditional, providing more room for data centre electronics. The Pretium Integrated Solutions family also includes the U-Space System, which provides the high-density benefits realized by the Zero-U System, utilizing a traditional rack mount housing for the MTP Connector patching area.

- Integrated Trunk Module (ITM), a factory-terminated, MTP Connector trunk assembly integrated into a Plug & Play Universal Systems module. The trunk cable stored within the module is easily deployed to an exact length, so precise pre-planning of cable length is not required.

The ITM provides a quick and convenient method for deploying and/or redeploying optical connectivity and is well-suited for zone distribution architectures, from the zone distribution area to equipment cabinet(s). Additionally, the ITM can be easily deployed between the data centre main distribution area and individual cabinet locations.

- UniCam(R) Pretium Performance Connectors, which offer industry-leading optical performance in a fast, easy field-termination solution.

VoIP, Mobile Data to Help Grow Slovakia Communications

Source: www.voip-news.com

What will drive growth in Slovakia’s telecommunications industries over the next five years? Mobile data, fixed broadband internet and VoIP, according to new research from Pyramid Research. However, the data suggest that mobile voice services will start a declining pattern.

“Fixed broadband, VoIP, and mobile data services will become the major sources of growth in the Slovakian telecom market over the next five years,” notes Sylwia Boguszewska, analyst at Pyramid Research and author of the report. “Broadband and mobile data’s revenue will more than double in the forecast period and in 2013 will account for 10.1 percent and 22.0 percent of total revenue, respectively.”

According to Pyramid:

The telecom market in Slovakia generated $2.4 billion in service revenues in 2008 (excluding pay-TV), an increase of about 14 percent over 2007 revenues. Pyramid expects the overall market to contract slightly in 2009, with recovery beginning in 2010. Pyramid estimates that Slovakia’s telecom services sector will be worth $2.7 billion in 2013, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 1.8 percent over the next five years. Broadband and mobile data’s revenue will more than double in the forecast period and in 2013 will account for 10.1 percent and 22.0 percent of total revenues, respectively.

Tata Communications Successfully Completes Trial

Source: www.voip-news.com

The wireless IP interconnection technology from Tata Communications has been successfully trialed as part of the international GSM Association’s program to develop next gen wireless services.

According to the company:

Tata Communications’ trials were part of the GSMA’s IP eXchange (IPX) Pre-Commercial Implementation Project, which is verifying the design and operation of IPX networks through a series of trials designed to validate technical and commercial specifications. Once adopted, IPX will act as a private global IP backbone, open to any telecommunications company adhering to the required standards. IPX will provide fixed and mobile service providers with a technical and commercial platform for the performance-based exchange of IP-based services.

“Tata Communications’ participation and completion of the GSMA’s IPX trial is key to our strategy of delivering innovative voice solutions to our customers worldwide,” said Michel Guyot, President, Global Voice Solutions for Tata Communications. “Our company is committed to working with the IPIA (IP Internetworking Alliance) to promote and support the launch of IPX services and is planning to launch its own IPX rich, integrated offering to service providers – like TELUS and Telekom Austria – delivered over next-generation network architecture. We truly believe the IPX model will have a very significant impact on the industry.”

Teknovus and RAD Data Communications Have Support for Mirgration of Legacy TDM Services

Source: www.voip-news.com

There is now support for migration of legacy TDM services to next-gen IP networks from Teknovus and RAD Data Communications.

According to the companies:

RAD’s TDM pseudowire gateways, along with Teknovus’ EPON chips, exceed the ITU-T standards for traditional TDM voice services over a fiber-based IP network. This combination enables service providers to consolidate all services – traditional voice, VoIP, data, and video – onto one unified network, thereby preserving revenues from legacy services while opening up new subscriber opportunities.

“RAD’s long term experience and leadership in TDM pseudowire, together with Teknovus-based EPON infrastructure, opens the opportunity for carriers and transport providers to deliver TDM services over PONs,” said Eyal Gabay, Senior Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications. “Together with Teknovus, we have proven the success of pseudowire emulation of TDM traffic over EPON networks with high voice quality.”

Mobile Data Dongle Drop In Price in UK

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

If you are in the UK you may want to take a serious look at the new pricing for the mobile data dongles from Hutchison 3G (aka Three).

The price of the dongle has been halved and the plan prices are very tasty.

Now, what makes 3G data interesting to me is this 3G/4G data router that has Voice QoS built in. By combining a new HSUPA router, and unlimited data plan and a data card like the new Sierra Wireless HUSPA 880/881 wireless modems, you could just about have all the VoIP you need wherever you go.

T-Mobile 3G May Not Be Data Ready

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

I’m not an engineering type. I just use technology. So when I read Matt Miller’s post this morning it got me thinking.

3G is data. Voice rides over the data network. What this likely means is the data plans are not ready yet. I mean, TMO didn’t need 1700 mghz spectrum to sell voice.

Besides, the cute sales lady at the UTC T-Mobile store told me months ago they will have 3G data in the Spring when I bought a new device there. What’s the big mystery?

The mystery is T-Mobile got caught before THEY put the story out.

AT&T PrePaid SIM Works For Data

Source: andyabramson.blogs.com

This post by "the UnWired" blogger Arne Hess has me wondering if you need to by a data plan for light use in the USA is you want data over a pre-paid SIM on AT&T.

My guess based on Arne’s reference to WAP is that the service is generic GSM/GPRS data that chews up time..For those who just need to trickle their data, then by all means go for it. But it it is 3G, then a whole lot of money is being spent by those who are already subscribing to those plans will cause someone some indigestion somewhere.
