EBay-owned Skype has entered into a landmark Wi-Fi access deal with the European giant The Cloud that operates nearly 8,500 hot spots across the continent.
With the deal under force, the European customers will access Skypes VoIP-based services at the Clouds Wi-Fi hot spots.
Generally, making PC-to-PC VoIP calls using Skype software is somewhat free. However, access to the Clouds Wi-Fi network calls for a monthly payment of 6.99 pounds or $13 and requires a Skype-supported phone from SMC Networks (SMCWSKP100 model costing nearly $277).
The deal marks the beginning of a real low-cost alternative to traditional telecoms services, opinions the Clouds CTO Niall Murphy.
The UK customers will be accessing Cloud-Skype services from this month and other European countries by the year-end.
