Royal Dutch to introduce global VoIP rollout on Microsoft OCS platform

Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell has decided to introduce a global VoIP rollout with ten of thousands of IP phones that will operate on Microsofts Office Communication Server (OCS) 2007, Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 platform.
As of now, Shell is using Nortels Communication Server 1000 IP PBX in its data centers that host nearly 1,000 IP phones worldwide.
The company plans to introduce Microsoft servers in three data centers located in USA, Malaysia and the Netherlands. It will handle all VoIP call control for more than 40,000 IP hard phones (from Nortel) and softphones, based on Microsoft Office Communicator.
Known as the successor of Live Communication Server, the OCS is a real-time communications product for instant messaging, audio and video conferencing, as well as IP PBX-like call control.
Microsoft will go for public beta of its Office Communications Server and Office Communicator client later this year.
