Google Voice invites for military service members

Source: googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com

It is hard enough to keep in touch with family and friends, but imagine being half-way around the world in a place like Iraq with limited access to telephones…or having to move and change your phone number every couple years. The military lifestyle often presents unique communication challenges that Google Voice can make easier, so we are giving priority invites (sent within a day) to active military and reserves with .mil email addresses at: www.google.com/militaryinvite.

For more details, see our post on the Official Google blog. If you don’t have a .mil email address, you can still make an invite request on our site.

Show off your Google Number

Source: googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com

Want to share your new Google number with family, friends and co-workers? To help spread the word (or should we say, the number), get your Google number printed on cards that you can hand out. There are three design options to choose from, so you can decide whether you want to show business info, personal info, or just your name and number.

We are giving away 50,000 free sets of 25 cards (no shipping or any other fees) over the next week. Keep an eye open for an image and link to appear in your Google Voice inbox, on the left side below the account balance, as it will appear at different times for different Google Voice users throughout the week. Once you click on the link, you will be able to customize and order your free cards through iPrint.com.

Source: googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com

Thanks to some great work by the Google Mobile team, we now have a Google Voice mobile app for Blackberry and Android-powered phones. The mobile application makes using Google Voice with your cell phone simpler by letting you place calls and send SMS messages directly from your Google Voice number. You can call from your phone’s address book or enter in numbers directly, and your outbound calls will display your Google Voice number as the caller ID. You can also listen to your voicemail and read transcriptions of your messages. Check out the video below and read more on the Official Google Blog. Need a new number?

Source: googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com

Your Google Voice number is tied to you rather than a device or a location, so it stays with you as you move, change jobs, or switch phone companies. Your forwading phones may change but your Google number remains the same, so you don’t need to send out updates all the time about new numbers to reach you at.

But we also realize that there are times where you might want to change your Google number. Maybe you’d prefer to have a local number after moving to another area code. Or maybe you’d just like to find a more personalized number than what you have now to keep for the long term. For situations like these we have added the ability to change your Google Voice number. There is a one-time $10 charge for changing your number, and it can be done in your account settings within a few minutes.

Because changing phone number is rarely a smooth process -people to notify, forms to update, etc.. – we have added a few extra touches to make the process as painless as possible. After you pick a new number, it will become effective right away, but your old number will keep working for another three months, so you have time to update everyone. During that period, calls and SMS to both numbers will show in your account. And before your old number expires, we’ll let you know who’s still calling it so you can update them individually.

New iPhone and iPod touch Application From AT&T Lets Customers Schedule U-verse TV DVR Recordings On The Go

Source: alanweinkrantz.typepad.com

About 18 months ago, I asked Ralph de la Vega when I could control my AT&T U-verseSM TV with my iPhone.  Well now, I can.  Sort of.  As long as you are away from home.

AT&T has a free application from the Apple App Store to make scheduling and managing recordings on their DVR even easier when you’re away from home.

The U-verse TV Mobile Remote Access App for iPhone and iPod touch lets customers record their content from virtually anywhere and is another example of U-verse TV applications and DVR enhancements that have been rolled out to customers at no extra charge.

The app allows users to easily search U-verse TV program listings from the full program guide, view descriptions of selected programs, schedule program or series recordings, manage or edit scheduled recordings, and delete stored DVR content.

The Mobile Remote Access App is available for free from Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.

The launch of the new U-verse TV Mobile Remote Access App follows several DVR enhancements that are currently being rolled out to U-verse TV customers, including an exclusive new Total Home DVR feature that allows customers to schedule and delete recordings from any U-verse receiver in the home — all from a single DVR.
