Tech Republic offers insight about VoIP and MuniWifi compatibility and provides some meaningful commentary.

Given my sub par experience with Earthlink’s Voice over WiFi in a muni build out in both Anaheim and Philadelphia I have to say that part of the blame is the deployment of a mesh network architecture from Tropos.

Tropos officials admitted to me earlier this week that mesh as it currently sits is not really ready for VoIP until the voice 802.11 R standard comes along. Other issues impact it as well so while you can use Voice over WiFi in your home or office don’t plan on using it as well in muni environments without some pain, blues and agony.
