Microsoft Corp has developed a table-top device called RoundTable that provides an ideal platform for an audio and video conferencing. It will be available during mid-2007, the company said.

As the name suggests, the RoundTable device enables companies to integrate virtual presentations, shared whiteboards and file sharing into audio and video conferences working with Office Communications Server 2007 and Office Live Meeting.

Appears like a traditional speakerphone, the table-top camera device connects to a PC and creates a 360-degree panoramic view displaying side-by-side digital images of each conferencing participant.

Besides enabling face-to-face meeting, RoundTable sessions are recordable for viewing in future. The price of the device is nearly $3,000.

This report says that Cisco System Inc will too ship its video conferencing system TelePresence. While, Hewlett-Packard and Polycom Inc are busy in preparing similar types of devices.

So, shall we conclude, a new price war would follow thereafter?
