Microsoft teams up with companies for integrating desktop phone systems and PC

Cisco and a number of telecom companies would be providing Microsoft support for emerging voice protocols with the promise of integrating desktop phone systems and the PC. Companies like Alcatel, Avaya, Cisco, Nortel and Siemens would be integrating call-control capabilities with Microsofts Live Communications Server, Office Communicator Mobile and Office Communicator 2005 desktop client.

Microsofts integration with these companies would let users launch and answer PBX based and IP-PBX phone calls and view phone presence information from the Office Communicator client. The same client would let users switch between instant messaging and voice sessions.
