Software giant Microsoft has made a beta release of its much-talked Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 that enables business enterprises to make VoIP calls.

It is now available to more than 2,500 IT professionals for testing. The new computer server that brings VoIP services for corporate world will be officially launched in the mid of 2007.

Gurdeep Singh Pall, corporate vice president of the Unified Communications Group at Microsoft stated,

The convergence of telecom and data networks is happening rapidly. Software will integrate these two worlds, enabling IT managers to deliver new communications possibilities that include VoIP.

The VoIP server also enables corporate employees to make instant phone call to their fellow workers from within 2007 Microsoft Office applications by simply clicking on the name of the desired person on the desktop. The office applications includes Office Word 2007, Office Outlook 2007 and Office Communicator.

Mr Pall added,

The ultimate driver of VoIP is not merely cost savings, but is in business process integration. Enterprises should evaluate their long-term strategy toward developing IP telephony applications beyond basic telephony, including business application integration.

Microsoft foresees future in VoIP as in the next few years all most all the corporate communications will turn into VoIP making strong demand for IP-based software.
