Low-Cost International VoIP with Voxofon?

VOXOFON is spreading the word about their low-cost mobile VoIP service, which allows users to make VoIP calls from their internet-enabled smartphone at a fraction of the cost of calling directly through their mobile carrier.

“Making an international phone call from a cell phone can cost a small fortune, and the wireless carrier will make at least a 90% profit on that call,” says VOXOFON President Alexey Goloshubin.

The VOXOFON service is supposed to be easy to use and low in cost. It’s supported by BlackBerry and Android phones with a download.

According to the company:

Calling abroad with VoIP used to involve sitting in front of a computer with a set of headphones, but in the past few years, the service has evolved, as new companies competed with innovative services for the long-neglected market share of friends, family and business associates trying to keep in touch – and travelers trying to avoid roaming fees.

Some telephone companies offer mobile VoIP for smart phones, but they require special software be installed, a phone that supports WiFi, and calling in a WiFi zone.
