ITU Standardizes on PacketCable 1.5 Suite

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has aproved a suite of CableLabs PacketCable specifications the standards for the international version of services, including VoIP.
PacketCable-based standards also known as IPCablecom, and approved suite covers such topics as
a) Architecture
b) Network Call Signaling
c) Call Management Server (CMS) to CMS Signaling
d) Quality of Service (QoS)
e) Support for multimedia
It also covers other functions necessary to provide time-critical interactive services over a cable television network using IP.
The approval actually is the result of work carried out last Oct by ITU Study Group 9 which is entitled Integrated Broadband Cable Networks and Television and Sound Transmission group.
CableLabs President and CEO Dr. Richard R. Green is the Chairman of SG 9.
Anyway, it was only after consultations with its member states and sector members that the ITU approval came in November end.
