Dating Scam, Romance Scam. Read this and stay safe.
Interesting how Oprah brings these web and IT issues to the public. Just look at something on TV about Dating Scams.
More people should read www.romancescam.com in order NOT to get scammed. “The online scams come in many forms and shapes, but there is one particularly nasty form: romance scams, when the scammers approach you on a dating service or YIM. They play with their victims feelings, send them lovely messages, call them on the phone, send them presents, make them believe that they finally met their “one and only”, and after they build some degree of trust, here comes the nasty scam part. The most common online dating scams are Nigerian scams and Russian scams.”
I predict that lot’s of such scam are going on on skype and will be disclosed. Skype is the perfect on typepad ; remember : I have said thousand times that the whole problem with Skype is that any can make any account, being anybody, from anywere, being anybody (over and over) impersonating any person (you get no notification that you phone or email is listed there). On top of that is it virtually untraceable if you use anonymizer, and IP-masking.
But then again if you really want to know who you are talking too ; well my voice and my face is my ID.
