Boosting its efforts for the development of Unified Communications (UC) offerings, American telecom company Avaya has acquired Traverse for US$15 million.

With this acquisition, Avaya has now the bundle of applications necessary for the enhancement of UC services. It includes call handling applications and voicemail management tools of Traverse Networks. These tools will be added to mobile devices into the Avayas IP communications platform.

Explaining effective communication for mobile workers essential in delivering world class service, Eileen Rudden, vice president and general manager at Unified Communications Division at Avaya said,

The addition of Traverse technology to Avayas Unified Communications portfolio builds on the strength of our current mobility solutions and helps extend Intelligent Communications to the very edge of the enterprise. The new capabilities will enable us to support simplified employee collaboration and more productive use of communications, wherever people work and across a broader range of devices.

Traverse applications support a range of devices including, Palm handhelds, RIM Blackberry and J2ME-enabled mobile phones.
